International Association for the Study of the Commons
IASC European Meeting
September 14-17, 2011
Hosted by the Agricultural University Plovdiv, Bulgaria
Theme: Shared Resources in a Rapidly Changing World
The conference will be opened on Wednesday night by Prof. Dr Susan Buck the president of IASC in 2011. Then an introductory talk will be given by Dr. Tine de Moor about the Commons in Eastern and Western Europe. This links and “tunes in” the participants to the location and the topic of the Conference.
The next two days will be then dedicated to the 4 conference themes, working on them with the help of keynote lectures, parallel sessions of presentations of participants and a poster session. One afternoon is used for a selection of field trips around Plovdiv (Forests, Pasture and Irrigation, all managed as a commons). As in past global and regional conferences, there will be a meeting of European scholars, who want to continue to build our European initiatives (e.g. Cost Action). The closing session of the conference will draw some lessons from the discussions on “shared resources in a rapidly changing world” over the last days. It will be introduced by a talk given by Prof Dr Buck and will be then followed by a panel discussion of the key note speakers.
