Yolanda Massieu, IASC-member and Mexican researcher, has just published the book Mirada de jaguar: Venturas y desventuras de la biodiversidad en América Latina [transl.: A jaguar’s glance: ventures and misfortunes of biodiversity in Latin America].
The book is a result of a long term research about biodiversity as the most fragile part of nature, threatened by industrialization and predatory mega-projects such as mining, oil, and hydroelectric energy. It describes international regulations, specific cases of biodiversity’s human uses, and indigenous people’s narrative and thought about nature. There are three case studies in Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Mexico. The book was published by Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in Mexico and is available at university’s libraries or by contacting the author (e-mail).
