The World Commons Week (WCW) is an annual celebration of commons research and practice across the globe instituted since 2018 and led by the IASC. This year too we have an exciting series of keynote webinars supplemented with events commemorating the week in different parts of the globe all centred on “Emerging Regional Perspectives around commons”! This year’s keynotes will also form the basis of a panel on the same theme within IASC 2025 to be held in Amherst. - Dec 10th 2024: Postgraduate Programme in Territorial Planning and Management’s Seminar on the Commons organised by LabJuta (Territorial Justice Laboratory) and eco.t (Political Ecology, Planning and Territory Research Group). Brazil – in person. This event will address urban commons – collective social practices that preserve and manage shared spaces and resources in the city. We will discuss the challenges and lessons learned from applying the commons in practice, based on the experiences of social movements and their relationship with the state. Discussions will centre around how these movements build their autonomy in decision-making, ensuring support to maintain and expand these experiences of shared governance. With a lecture by Professor Dr. Iolanda Bianchi (Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona) From commons to public-community partnerships: lessons learned from European cities, a round table on the construction of autonomy and governance of commons by popular movements, with Antônia Ferreira Nascimento (Homeless Movement for Urban Reform) and Renato Ramos (Homeless Workers Movements – Technology Group), and the launch of the special volume of the publication Diálogos Socioambientais (Socio-environmental Dialogues) on Commons, Struggles and Territorial Planning.
